Green Careers Week

As part of an exciting new partnership with National Careers Week, promoting net zero jobs and green career pathways, the inaugural Green Careers Week will take place from the 7 to 12 November 2022. We would love STEM Ambassadors to get involved and show young people some of the exciting green careers available!

One of the ways you can support Green Careers Week is to provide a simple career profile to help raise awareness of the wide variety of jobs across the UK. World Skills UK finals and Skills Show Venue: Cardiff and Vale College

Date: 16-18 November 2022

A Skills Show/Careers Fair is being held alongside the WorldSkills UK finals that are taking place at Cardiff and Vale College.

Schools from Cardiff and the surrounding areas have been invited to come along to see
some of the competitions that are taking place and to also find out more about their next
steps and the choices that are available to them.

The Inspiring Skills Excellence in Wales (ISEiW) Team will be taking along Have a Go
activities and are asking providers to help man some of the stands, as well as taking along
your own literature/freebies. Members of the ISEiW Team will be around to demonstrate
how the equipment works and to answer any queries throughout the day.
As you will see from the list below there will be a wide range of activities available,
although the final list is still to be confirmed.

  • Engineering - Virtual Welder, Hydraulics/ Mechanisms, Engineering construction kit,
  • Circuit kit, Lego.
  • Construction - Transport Simulator, Brickwork, Carpentry, Plumbing, Electrical,
  • Green Tech, Surveying and Levelling.
  • Creative and Media - 2D and 3D animation and Music Tech.
  • Health Hospitality and Lifestyle - Catering, Health and Social Care, Hairdressing,
  • Beauty, ICAROS, Childcare.
  • IT and Enterprise - IT kits and CWIC Immersive Zone.

STEM Careers event - Speed networking

25 October 2022

The school  would  like to invite employers to highlight what they do, the variety of job opportunities available and if possible the different routes into those opportunities.

This is a whole school event (with the schedule for the year groups to attend to be confirmed) The event will begin at 8.50am, and you will be able to set up from 8a.m. There is a break 9.50-10.50am and the event will finish at lunchtime 1.10pm This event is organsied by Careers Wales The event is being held across two halls in the school and a table/chairs and space for a pop up will be provided for each stand. Public Wi-Fi is available and any other resources such as additional space/table, power (number of power points will be limited) etc can be considered on a case by case basis. If you could have something interactive, or hands on, or an activity or quiz on your stand this would be ideal The school would also like employers to highlight what they do, the variety of job opportunities available and if possible the different routes into those opportunities.

The event will be in the School Hall. Students will visit you in groups of 5 students (much like a speed networking event). The year 10/11 pupils will have questions to ask, about the importance of having additional languages within the workplace. The students will be asking the questions in English. Please can you give me an overview of your company What are the main skills you use for your job Is the ability to speak Welsh an advantage when your looking for work How much Welsh would be required at your company/organisation What are the main areas within your organisation/company which would benefit the most from using Welsh. As an employer, do you value the ability to speak Welsh as a skill Is the demand for employing Welsh Speakers increasing. Sessions from 9am - 1pm.

Networking Opportunity

IOP Communicators and Outreach Conference. Thursday 17 November. In person in London and Online

An opportunity for physics communicators and outreach enthusiasts of all levels to meet and discuss best practice and collaboration. With the theme 'Reaching Out, Catching Up' the conference focuses on examining how we've all had to adapt to the Covid19 pandemic, what lessons we can learn from that and how we can get back to engaging with the public, especially for underserved communities hit especially hard. The talks, posters, workshops and exhibition are all presented in person but the main room will be livestreamed for those unable to attend physically.
